Burda Style For people who sew

This is my first try at grainline’s maritime shorts pattern. They are wearable but I’m not sure if I’ll wear em. I have been blessed with a thick waist, and was hoping that since there were no darts that they wouldn’t have too much shape to them and that I could just cut a straight size and not mess around with blending sizes. Although looking at the sizing my waist measurements are a full 4 sizes bigger than my hip measurements (which is typical for me) so was probably wishful thinking! I chose a size closer to my waist measurements but the waistband tapers quite a bit and it ended up being too tight so I unpicked the waistband side seams and just angled the seam out to the top corners of the seam allowances. Now they sort of fit, but the leg openings are wider than I’d like them to beeeeee. I do like the style though and am planning on making up another pair with insight gained from this pair.
