Description

all cat-parents know those cats are pretty fuzzy. well, i decided to do as my friend laura does and started collecting all that fuzz that brian and i brushed and petted off our cats. so i think this is about 2 or 3 years worth of cat hair. everything gray looking is cat hair (interesting as our cats are black – but you end up getting mostly undercoat hair). no animals have been harmed for this jacket! i washed the cat hair and then felted it using the needle punching attachment on my sewing machine. the pattern is the same BWOF 03/08 jacket #104 pattern i’ve now used 3 times. i left the edges raw as the boiled wool does not unravel. i used the flatlock stitch on my serger to put everything together, i think it’s a nice effect. i love this jacket as i’ve designed most of it myself. the only thing that sucks about it is that a lot of the cat hair comes off. i should have designed an automatic lint roller with it.

Great aesthetics, I love the sleeves(as much as the rest), is the collar made of cat hair as well?

Wow…I am in awe! I am always fascinated by people who spin their own sheep’s wool but you have taken it to a new level. Too bad your jacket is already shedding (or were you holding one of the kitties, lol?). If they only made something to prevent that but then we would spray our pets with it, right? You’ve done a beautiful job on your amazing jacket….congratulations!

i love that you collected hair for so long. talk about dedication! i’m allergic the cats as well as another commenter and as i scrolled through your photos, my eyes started itching…must be psychological! it looks very nice. if you ever want to do one out of dog fur, let me know. my mom’s a dog groomer. haha! :)

Utterly fascinating! It’s a beautiful piece and a work of art, so if the jacket continues to shed (and I think it will!) you can always use it for display. What a conversation piece.

    cool looking jacket!

and yeah, interesting! I recently saw some finger papets made out of cat hair somewhere online(can’t remember what site… maybe craft magazine…) I have two cats, and oh boy! they shed so much… maybe I shoud give it a try making something felty out of their hair!
