Burda Style For people who sew

I was in desperate need of a couple pairs of casual pants and always find RTW pants fit me terribly so I decided to take a stab at making my own jeans. I used Vogue V8330 which I had purchased at a thrift store a couple years ago for $1.99 and was surprised to find the pattern had never been used and was in perfect condition! The first pair I made were a test run using suiting fabric with a fleecy wrong side that I had got as part of a ‘Buy 1 get 3 Free’ sale – due to it’s ‘free’ status, I didn’t mind experimenting with the fabric. It didn’t have enough stretch for the pattern so the pants fit quite tightly but are still wearable (I made the waistband a little loose so that the lack of stretch isn’t uncomfortable, but this makes a belt necessary).
The second pair I made were using denim that was quite expensive so I sewed very carefully. I’m happy with my easy take on pocket top-stitching despite my frustrations with my machines seeming inability to cope with denim thread – I adjusted every setting I could think of and the stitching still appears uneven! The material is extremely stretchy and quite thin so these jeans are even MORE comfortable than slipping on a pair of pajama bottoms – how great is that!
