I adapted the Carol leggings pattern to be yoga/running tights. The length is shortened to a capri length. I always run in tights so this pattern will allow me to make my own tights as ready made tights are very expensive.
I added a stretch mesh detail to the inside calf.
Did this project completely on my sewing machine as I don’t have a serger. Used a walking foot and a small zigzag stitch for the seams. For the heam I used a stretch twin needle (with the walking foot).
Cotton/Lycra blend and stretch mesh for detail

I have been sewing with lycra for many years now and would like to put some of my patterns and ideas onto this site but don’t have a clue what to do. I managed to put a picture of a leatard I made last year on but that is as far as I have got. Do you have any tips on how you go about it. I’d love to see more of your work

I really love these! I have been wanting to start working with spandex type fabrics soon, but have no experience, especially making bottoms. Is there anything that you noticed is key to not lose your mind while making these? Hopefully soon I will be attempting my first bathing suit and yoga pants and want to learn as much as I can before I start cutting that expensive fabric…

There are three things I do when sewing with spandex or stretchy fabrics. One: make sure you use a ball point (stretch) needle. Two: if you don’t have a serger use a small zigzag stitch. Three: Use a walking foot which really helps prevent the fabric from stretching and gathering.

what a good idea, these look great – - running tights ARE very expensive! what kind of fabric did you use? (my question stems from the fact that I really like performance fabric and how it wicks away moisture….) i really want to try making these for running now!! :-)

I used this kind of fabric: http://www.seattlefabrics.com/stretch.html#Cotton%20Lycra
I was really happy with the results.
