Here’s a dress I made this week based on a dress that I saw on Glee, (yes I’m a Gleek.) I made it from an old lavender sheet that was lying around the house…no sheets are safe in my house. Haha. I painted the print on by hand using watered down acrylic paint. Acrylic paint work well as a dye and doesn’t come off in the wash. The dress is just a simple shift dress with a gathered skirt and an invisible zipper in the side for getting in and out of. I made my own pattern for this dress. I’m pretty pleased with the way it turned out. I hope you like it. :)
Cotton sheet, scrap fabric, invisible zipper, and acrylic paint.

Absolutely gorgeous!! I’m a huge Gleek too so I’m pretty sure I know which dress this is based off of (Quinn’s dress from New York correct?) I found it on the Anthropologie website but it’s over $200 D: but I’d love to try and make this too but I’m not quite as talented as you ;)

It’s so cute! and well done with the painting, I don’t have the patience to put pattern on fabric myself. It looks very easy and wearable :)

I would love to, but I’m afraid that I’m pretty bad when it comes down to describing things…it’s just something that I’ve never been very good at, but I’ll see what I can do. :)

Thank you! It’s basically just a simple shift dress with a gathered skirt. I’m normally pretty bad when it comes down to describing things, but I’ll see what I can do. ;)

Thanks you!! Oh I made sure to use a ruler to keep my lines straight. Trust me if I hadn’t the lines would be more of a crazy zigzag than a straight line! Haha.
And yay for another Gleek! :D

Wow, I never knew you could use acrylic paint that way… So if you just water it down it’s not all stiff? I am gonna have to try this!!!

Yeah it works great! It’s a llittle stiff at first, but if you throw it in the wash once you’re done the stiffness goes away. :)
Jun 13, 2011, 04.58 AMby caramia-made
Does the colour bleed in the wash? Or I guess just wash it separately the first few times?
Jun 13, 2011, 06.27 PMby melonhead
No not at all. I always just throw it in with my other clothes and so far it’s never done anything.
