Carmen Miranda’s Fruit Salad

VPLL 1449 (Reproduction of Hollywood 1449): This dress features tight gathering at the neckline, and short cap sleeves, or bracelet sleeve options. Skirt may be made plain, with center front jabot/cascade skirt, or with gathered peplum.
The instructions are well written, but they are from a vintage pattern, so not everything is spelled out. I would not suggest this as a first or second project, unless you have someone with some vintage pattern experience to help out.
Clearly I am fond of this pattern as I already made a blue version without the peplum.
I was intrigued by the peplum version, so I sewed up another version.
Since I made the dress previously, I did make a couple of fit changes. First, I shortened the sleeves by 2". And I also shortened the skirt by a 1".
I added grosgrain ribbon to the peplum to break up the busy print, and added a bow at the neckline to pull in a bit more purple.
The neckline corners are cut and gathered into a circle. Sewing this technique is a bit awkward, but the finished product is fun and unlike anything I have come across before.
If you are looking for a fun 1940s pattern, this is a great place to start.
