This is another project for the stage adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion. It was challenging but so fun to make. I will admit that several times I squealed with delight as I added all the finishing accoutrements.
The buttons, epaulets, and gold trim are all replicas from the period. The gold trim is woven from metal fibers and it is gorgeous in person. The body is made from navy wool, with the contrast in the lapels and cuffs in a cream wool from B. Black and Sons (http://www.bblackandsons.com/). The plastron inside is made from horsehair and flannel.

I love this… I was in a small Play that one of my Cusins put on and I had to wear some thing like this… I also have a 1842 Royal Navy Jacket that we do not take out of the bag it is in just to keep it from damage but I can say YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB!!!!! keep up the good work.

I tried it on so much when I was making it. I understand the coat-want. But I actually started sketching out a coat I could make for myself that is inspired by this. If it comes to fruition, you will see it here first!

holy crapola wow! by way of a more technical thing, what did you use to keep the front closed – just hooks and eyes?

Yes. They’re large, like a size 6 (I’ll have to double check that) and I crimped the hooks down just a smidge so that they wouldn’t easily come undone.

This is fantastic! It doesn’t come accompanied by a Mr Wentworth by chance, does it!?

A girl can dream…but no. The bone-head that’s playing Mr. Wentworth doesn’t even realize how amazing his costume is. We could’ve dressed him in a potato sack. It’s a crying shame, really.

Fastastic re-creation. It looks like you have an extensively equipped sewing room too!

It’s a costume shop at a university, so it is amazingly equipped. I’ll be sad when I don’t have access to it any more.
