A simple dress can look much more intriguing in an interesting or eye-popping fabric— which is why a lovely Cotton Ikat* was chosen for this classic number. And it’s even a beginner-friendly project with it’s pretty simple instructions.
*Ikat, or Ikkat, is the method of weaving that uses a resist dyeing process similar to tie-dye on either the warp or weft fibers. The dye is applied prior to the threads being woven to create the final fabric pattern or design.
110 cm (44 in) wide sequinned fabric with sequins over a width of 90 cm (36"): 1.90 – 1.90 – 1.95 – 2.00 – 2.00 m (2 1/8 – 2 1/8 – 2 1/4 – 2 1/4 – 2 1/4 yds). 140 cm (55 ") wide lining: 1.10 m (1 1/4 yds) for all sizes. Vilene / Pellon G 785. 1 invisible zipper.
(For our version): Lightweight Cotton Ikat. (For BSM version): sequinned fabrics. Note on sequinned fabrics: Use a fine needle and sewing thread for stitching and basting sequinned fabrics. Press sequinned fabrics under a (dry) pressing cloth with moderate heat and without steam. Test-iron a scrap of fabric.

I’m really confused. I just downloaded/ cut out the pattern for this, and the sleeves are long, not capped at all! Has anyone else had this problem?

I have some Ikat fabric and now I have an idea of what to do with it: Make a simple-styled dress vs. one with a lot of pleats, etc.

It’s true that a print can change so many things from plain to “Wow!” pieces! The dress looks absolutely cute!

Thank you, Hélène! I made a version for myself as well and taught a class recently teaching people how to create their own!
