This was a big one for me. I drafted the pattern myself and it had a number of new techniques I’d never done before (welted pockets were the most challenging).
I had intended to use Vogue 1059 but when I tried fitting the cut pattern to myself there was no way it was going to fit. So I went back to my copy of The Readers Digest Complete Guide to Sewing, which showed me how to draft a pair of pants from scratch. Once I had a draft copy that fit I copied the styling from the Vogue pattern onto it and voila!
I love the fabric, with its candy coloured pin stripes. It was sold to me as wool but almost melted the first time I tried to iron it!
“Wool” apparently. From plastic sheep.

I just bought the vogue 1059! And I wanted to buy the pattern for your dress you just posted! Why wasn’t the pattern going to fit you? The shorts you made are gorgeous I love that style.

Such a great pattern (and the invisible zip at the back is great for when you havent mastered flys yet!)
It didn’t fit for 2 reasons.
The silly reason is that I initially forgot to put the pocket facing piece together, which adds about 4inches in total to the waist (silly me). Didnt figure this out unitl I was well on the way with the draft.
The other reason is that the leg of the vogue pattern is a little more shapely then my mostly straight leg draft. It made me nervous to cut that style because my thighs are a size bigger then my hips, which are another size bigger then my waist. I wasnt sure if the shape was going to grade in and out very well and retain the shape. So it got straightened out in my draft. When I tried the leg at my size it just didn’t feel right.
Have fun with this pattern though! Its great.
