This is absolutely an heirloom, to pass along the generations. Stunning work. When sewing by hand, you’re adding so much of YOU to the piece, your grandchildren will be feeling your soul in this dress. Make sure you keep it!

great job. Just a question. Did you do the smocking and then cut the pattern pieces or did you cut the pattern pieces first but leaving an excedent for the texture?

Thank you lala86.Thanks again for your question. I had three pieces for the front side. Tthe middle piece which is rectangular in shape has the smocking .The side pieces were attached to the middle smocked piece .I did the shaping on side pieces. For the back side I took a slightly different approach.there are three separate pieces similar to the front side. The center piece has smocking on both the sides ,in between the smocked area I have the pleats and then attached the two side pieces to complete the back side….

I am glad you showed me this can be done. I posted the canadian smocking in techniques with the thought doing this very thing but you know how far I got? The first three rows and I got very bored. Thanks for putting that “spark” back in to my life. And your dress is fabulous!
