This is a camisole that has been lengthened so as to serve as an undergarment for a floor-length semi-transparent dress owned by my friend, Marie Louise, shown in the photographs. The design follows a Princess line and is actually another variation of the Princess dress I made and showed earlier this year. The fabric used, shown in a detail in the third photo, is a fine quality silk, very light and delicate. The design, as you can see, is very simple at the top – the quality and simplicity of the fabric, combined with the need to act basically as an undergarment, dictated the very simple design. The neck is wide in order to match the neckline of the dress.
The main body of the garment was given some shaping at the waist. The bust points appear wide, but this was again a conscious choice – the princess line exactly matches that found on the dress it was designed to serve. The bottom hem was modified so as to permit free movement of the legs without introducing too much additional fabric (which would have been the case with a flared design). All the hems were finished as rolled hems. This is hence a hybrid design, combining properties of a camisole and a slip.
My friend Marie Louise is shown with the camisole worn as an overgarment – this is simply for the purposes of these photos – the garment is normally worn as an undergarment.
(Note that the dress is shown in the final photo draped over my lamp, which is sculpted in the form of a woman’s torso and tiled with tiny plastic squares – this is what gives its unusual appearance)

This is what I would expect from you, Gedwoods. It’s lovely. BTW, cool lamp. I made a similar one back in the 1960s when people could be creative without having to justify anything (except to out mothers, and that will never change.) Cordially, Nehmah
