I added two ribbons that tie in the back as well as two front heart-shaped pockets. Also added a lacy hem…I allowed the muslin lining to hang below the dress hem. I am going for an old-timey look, so… Rather than buttons, this dress ties at the shoulders with ribbon. The cord at the waist was a bit of a challenge – I used the same ribbon for the ties as for the cord, which is not bias cut. I made gathers about 2 inches wide in the center of the back at the joining seam.
cotton, muslin, ribbed ribbon

You’ve captured a feeling of being carefree in a southern country setting (my children all live in KY & TN!) I picture a garden party with tea sandwiches, lemonade & this pretty dress on a sweet little girl.
