Calvin Klein dress

Columbus, Ohio, ...

I actually made this dress in 1996 from a Calvin Klein/Vogue pattern (when I was 17!!). I’ve since lost the pattern, but at least this still fits and is a class LBD. It’s made in crepe-back satin and is fully lined. I also made the belt out of the same fabric. I especially love the boatneck and pockets set in the front. It’s been a long time since I’ve made anything like this, but maybe sharing it on here will inspire me to sew more again.

Material Notes

black crepe-back satin

ADORABLE!! I might try this in a printed twill to make a day time dress! Thank you for the inspiration!

If you draft a pattern, please, please, please consider posting it here. I no longer have the original, and I’d love to replicate it. I’ve never drafted anything so intricate.

I’ll try my best, though at my absolute best I will probably make a simplified version.

And I can’t call what I do “drafting” a pattern! I promise to try!

Yes I red your description, I was just pointing the fact that there was some kind of Givenchy influence there-Calvin Klein wasn’t born yesterday :) Have a good xmas and great new year

It’s actually a Calvin Klein pattern (through Vogue), but thanks so much! :-)

This is a wonderful dress. It has a great cut and is elegantly made. The style is definately a classic.

And I also enjoy having pockets in the front. Pockets in dresses are so cute, as shown in the dress you made.

I also think it’s very classy, and I can’t believe you are still the same size as when you were 17 (I know I’m sure not). I would love a dress like this.

Thanks… I couldn’t either, really, but was so excited to realize it still fit! My toddler keeps me active, so maybe that’s why. :-)

Thanks! I feel a bit old too looking at it. It’s got fairly classic lines, but the pockets are what made me pull it out and try it on again.

Thank you! The belt was really easy… just covered some belting (available at all fabric stores) and pressed the fabric around a buckle (comes as a kit, sort of, at most fabric stores).
