Simplicity 2126 – Women’s One-Piece Dress: The dress features raglan sleeves and a heart-shaped neckline. The bodice is seamed down the center front and there are soft gathers at the upper front and lower edges. The skirt is slimly gored. Style II has contrasting sleeves and sequin banding is used for accent.
Because I was working with extremely limited yardage, my only choice was to use a multi-directional cutting layout (and to chop off 4 inches from the hemline.) I always cut everything in the same direction except for perhaps lining fabrics because, so often, even a fabric without an obvious nap can look significantly different when turned upside-down. Thankfully, I seem to have come out of this unscathed. The busy print is disguising it, or there was no issue with this particular rayon as far as directionality goes.
I believe this dress would have fit more like the pattern illustration if I had used a size 34. As it is, the finished garment is rather roomy – but it sure is comfy!
This pattern was missing the belt piece, so I decided to go with a tie belt instead of a buckle, just for fun.
I am not sure if I will be making this one again – although, the contrasting sleeves might lure me back to the pattern at some point in the future.
I am quite thrilled with finally making this pattern up – both pieces came from a Sew Weekly pattern swap back in 2012, which makes it rather special!
As always, more pics may be found over on my blog, Lilacs & Lace.
