Description

Ok- it’s nothing as wonderful as a dress or even a cute bag but I made it because I needed something for the kids I work with. It good for them to learn numbers, the days of the week… months etc etc etc. It is a bilingual kindergarten so there had to be space for English and German. I used velcro for the changables (months and year) Once the kids get big enough I will make up the days, written, on cards and since I left enough space I can also use it for weather and anything else that comes up!

Material Notes

Cotton, binding tape and plastic. The numbers are just laminated so is the month and the year.

Thank you for your comment. Your calendar is so colorful, perfect for the young grades you teach. I also included laminated, self-printed numbers and holidays, but instead of Velcro, I actually made little packets where the kids place numbers each day. It’s such an interactive tool, Ihave been using it for years since it can be washed. My students also enjoy it.

It looks fabulous. I’ve been wanting to make an attendance chart with plastic pockets like that — the kids can turn their card over in their pocket when they arrive. I’ve also been wanting to make a general use pocket chart. Was it tricky to sew the plastic?

It was a bitch!! Tips: Keep the plastic on a roll- when it creases I have not idea how you get them out… once you have sewn it taking out stitches makes it very fragile (the holes stay in like perfirated paper!!) But on the up side you can mark it with wipe markers and it sews very easily. Also the plastic is cheep so its not the end of the world if you mess it up! I made a few- like it was so heavy toward the end sewing straight lines was difficult but you dont see it so badly!! Good luck- my kids like it!

I find it lovely! I work at a bilingual school too (English and Spanish) and I was thinking on making a calendar myself for the kids i work with (4 and 5 years old) and some other classroom displays. So thank you SO much for the idea!
