Butterick 5281: MISSES’ DRESS AND BELT: Semi-fitted, lined, below mid-knee length dresses A, B have waistline seam, left shoulder yoke, right shoulder pleats, back bodice with darts, slightly flared, side zipper closing and shoulder pads. A: button trim and long sleeves with hook and eye closing. B: cap sleeves and belt.
I love all the 40s details of this dress. The neck is too small to get over the head, so one of the sides opens and closes with snaps. So clever!
The most significant change I made to the pattern was my fabric layout. In order to utilize the rose/border print effectively, I had to switch from grain to cross grain quite a few times. It was also clear that I would not have enough of my rose print to make an entire dress, so I had to incorporate the border. The border print is edged on one side and this took some doing!
I love this dress, especially the color of the rose print!
