Description

Another beautiful dress for Alden, we created this burnt orange hammered silk number from our pattern archives with the Gail dress pattern. We sewed the original dress together with silk charmeuse and and a guipure set-in. This time we went a bit more sporty with a sheer white silk set-in while incorporating the slit from the back into the front; creating a sweet v-shaped opening with a single fabric covered button.

    I agree with Themisstress the dress is unflattering and is not made well,too bulky and the fabric that was used is not appropriate for the dress

      I also agree with this. It’s extremely unflattering. Maybe it’s the kind of material it is, but it doesn’t look like it was ever ironed. One of the first basic things that you learn is how to iron as you go to make it look finished. Kind of looks sloppy & thrown together to me.

    I am obviousley alone in thinking this dress is bulky, unflattering, a weird colour combo, and not actually that well made! Sorry, but I’ve seen this beautiful girl look soooo much better. Disapointed!

    I have to also admit that I like this version better – the original is nice, but way too dressy for my “village life”. ;-) I adore the fabrics on this one! The dress looks so fun and youthful!

    This is such a gorgeous dress and it really suits you Alden!

    The colours are brilliant. I’m just starting to familiarise myself with different silk fabrics. I’ve never heard of hammered silk before. Could someone please tell me, is it q heavy or medium weight silk blend? Or 100% silk and quite floaty? The photo looks like it’s quite a medium weight but my eyes could deceive me!

      Hi there kouche,
      Hammered silk, my all time favorite fabric, is a medium weight 100% silk charmeuse that has been woven in a satin weave, so it appears to have been “hammered” and thus creates an alluring texture. One side is shiny, one is matte, like charmeuse. Either side is acceptable as the “right” side- for this dress I used the matte side.

      I always enjoy seeing parts of areas that are beautiful and cultural if the areas they are in have been ruined by stereotyping. Like Harlem for example and their unbeatable music scene.

    As much as I would love to see a new pattern, this restyle does make a lot of sense because it’s a beautiful dress, and the original version with it’s gorgeous images always had me wondering why no-one had made their own versions. Let’s see more Gail’s! I might even do one myself.. there are still some wedding’s this summer that need a hot dress..

      Actually good point – mebbe people dont make the dress because theyre scared of the neckline and this version shows another way to do it. If there MUST be a restyle :P

    Love this dress! :-) It looks girly and feminin at the same time. Red silk and white crèpe de chine… very noble fabric choice and it was worth it.

    I like this very much. The original Gail is lovely, but that guipure inset had me a bit unsure. It’s great to see this pattern with different fabrics and on a different model.

    That colour is hot on Alden, nice! The change in fabrics and bright colour makes this look like a whole new dress! I wasn’t too keen on the original, a bit matronly for me, this one is very sporty. (cute shoes too xx)
