Any girl or woman would feel fresh and absolutely stunning with a red dress. Especially if the fabric is so luscious like this duchesse satin. My project is based on the Vintage Modern Elizabeth Gathered-Waist Dress pattern from BurdaStyle’s Sewing Vintage Modern book. I made variations at the neckline, using a semi-heart neckline to give depth to the neck area, creating an illusion of a longer neck. I kept the neckline simple to maintain a classic style and lowered down the sleeves by 5 cm. Instead of a gathered bottom, I cut the basic pattern into eight individual crooked rectangular shapes that gives the flare to the skirt. This dress is inspired by the novel The Great Gatsby with views on the 1920s American Dream. Hence the story is filled with party and scandal, after the characters gained freedom from the World War. On top of all the scandals, people could look clean in the surface by looking classy like this dress. For me, the color red gives me the freedom to stand out with class.
