I love the 60’s! The short mini shift dresses, the boots, the super fake lashes, and all those vibrant colors. I bought this fabric as a souvenir on my trip to visit my grandparents in Vietnam. The fabric is polyester and embroidered with yellow and red flowers. I never knew what I would do with it but the colors appealed to me, a petroleum blue with vibrant red and yellow flowers embroidered all over. I saved it for 5 five years…well more like too much of a chicken poop to cut into it so I didn’t do anything with it for 5 years.
When I saw the Jamie shift dress in the book, I knew that would be the pattern I wanted to use and I knew this is the perfect fabric for it! The light weight polyester was sheer so I decided to line the dress completely. I didn’t use facing pieces that come with the pattern.
My fiance and I are in Vegas today and it is the perfect opportunity to wear it. We walked around and took pictures at the Palazzo, Venetian, and anywhere we saw a photo opportunity. People were looking at me as I tried to strike a 60’s pose. I did feel like I belong in a different era. I looked good and stood out in the crowd. I am quite proud of my self for having the guts to cut into slippery material that I have held on for so long. I was worried I’d ruined the fabric.
I am thrilled that this turned out so well. In honor of Twiggy and the fashion of the 60’s, I went all out with two layers of fake lashes, white boots, and my new dress in a beautiful sunny day in Vegas. I love the Jamie pattern! Thank you Peter for all these amazing photos. He’s the shadow in some of my photos.
