My design is based off of two combined variations of the Elizabeth Gathered-Waist Dress, size 8.
The outer layer, made from a heavily embroidered lace with rhinestone accents, utilizes the boatneck from the top of the Celia Pajama Set, but keeps the original sleeve of the Elizabeth Gathered-Waist Dress. Both the neckline and armhole openings are finished with bias tape instead of facings. The hem was shortened by 2.5’’ to reveal the pop of color from the lining.
The lining, made out of teal taffeta, stays true to the original pattern, except for the neckline and shoulders. I took the altered bodice patterns from the outer layer of the dress and dipped the front neckline of the lining into a soft sweetheart so that when both layers were together a little skin would show through the lace. The back neckline of the lining has the same boatneck shape as the outer layer. The sleeve extension was removed to create a sleeveless bodice, so again, a little skin would show through the lace sleeves. Since the neckline and armholes were changed, I had to draft new facings to match.
I strung a simple, classic glass pearl necklace to accessorize it.
The bias tape is 1/4’’. The seams are finished both by serging and french seaming, where appropriate. An invisible zipper is used for closure.
