A playful, spring-y yellow shirt dress with white peter pan collar and scalloped hem.
I was inspired by the fitted bodice and full skirt of the Elizabeth gathered waist dress. I thought it would be fun and super cute to add a peter pan collar, and then mimic that shape in the scallops on the hem. The buttons down the front are only decorative; the dress closes with an invisible zipper in the back. It solves the problem of the front gaping open between the buttons. The bodice is lined but the skirt is a single layer. I edged the armholes with bias trim. The hem was made by making a template, tracing the pattern on the fabric, and sewing two layers together right on the line. Afterwards I topstitched the scallops, the collar, and the button placket. I had stiff belting that I cut down to one inch, then covered with the white linen. I also added inseam pockets, because who doesn’t love pockets!
This project definitely had its ups and downs, but overall I am very happy with it. It’s almost obscenely adorable. This contest has helped motivate me to think outside the box and expand a pattern beyond its initial look.
Cotton, linen, 1" belting, lightweight interfacing, 3/4" white buttons, belt buckle, white invisible zipper.

I am in love with your interpretation of this dress! Makes me feel ready for spring, which is far off in NW Wisconsin. Love the fabric, hem, contrasting collar, belt, buttons, and the tiny sleeve detail. And pockets! You even look cute in white tights, nobody can pull those off. Good luck on the contest.

As a resident of NE Ohio I feel your pain about spring seeming unreachably far away. I’ll be happy when I don’t need any tights and can wear this dress with my bare legs! (Which will be essentially the same shade of white at that point.) I’m glad you like my dress, thank you for taking the time to comment.

Hi Nikki, very nice job! Indeed: almost obscenely adorable! But you look very fine it! Love all the detailing and your story about the project. And of course: no pockets no pay!! Voted your dress and the blue one with the fringe. Good luck and thank you for good inspiration.

And I get Wynona Ryder a lot, even from random people on the street! Haha. I usually take it as a compliment :)
