I was inspired by so many of the projects Burda’s Sewing Vintage Modern book. I was hard to pick which one to do first.
The over-the-top, fun feel of the 1920s is fantastic! So, I decided to make the Louisa Drop-Waist Dress. I had a vintage sari and some silky fabric in my stash. They both would have worked beautifully with that style of dress. Sketches are the best way for me to narrow down my ideas so I started there.
I used the Louisa Dress pattern as is. The variations came after sewing the main body of the dress. I chose to use fabrics that were about the same tone. And played with translucent over patterned fabric. This kept the details looking natural. The embellishments I added are listed in the variation section.
The translucent polyester with sequins was a bit tricky to stitch.
I used a vintage rayon blend the looked silky and hand dyed.
