BurdaStyle Sewing Vintage Modern Contest 2013 black sheer dress

For this competition I wanted to make a vintage-modern dress for my friend. Something feminine and empowering. I used the bodice from Heather Bustier Dress. Making the pattern was fun and easy to follow. I then cut the side panels so that triangular openings were made, and inserted sheer fabric into that place. To make it even more figure flattering I added a fitted pencil skirt to the bodice. For the skirt I used a pattern from 06/2000 issue of german Burda magazine, model 111. This probably won`t help most of you, but it is just a plain dress pattern, and I used it only from the waist down. For the sheer top part I used a pattern from 02/2011 german burdastyle issue, model 106A. I can not find the link to it on this site, but you can take basically any fitted long sleved top pattern. I made each part separately and asked my friend to put them on, then I used the chalk to mark where they need to be sewn together. I inserted a white binding at the waist, and a black double fold binding around the neckline and the sleeves. For the icing on the cake I used Swarowski elements buttons on the sleeves, on the back and on the front. They match the ring and the earrings my friend is wearing. The bodice is lined with the same fabric from which the dress is made of. I used a double needle seam on the hem.
