Description

My new favorite dress to wear! I omitted the sleeves because it’s summer where I am and sleeveless feels much better. I have the French version of BS, but I am a beginner sewer so… thank goodness I can download the digital english version instructions for free from burdastyle.com! Or else all that new sewing vocab can be a but overwhelming. There were no instructions for the top inset, so I just sewed it and ignored the buttons. I also split the front skirt panels in two where the pleats begin because I wanted there to be a bit of contrast in the skirt as well.

I was tempted to omit the zipper since I think I could have pulled this dress over without any openings… but I decided to not risk it and sewed the zipper in anyway.

It is also a good biking dress, FYI, doesn’t ride up too high but has enough space for the legs to pedal.

I wrote more in my sewing journal: http://cathywu.com/journal/treadling/2013/02/03/burda-122012-dress-130/

Wow this is amazing. So bright cheerful and the contrast red looks just amazing. I really liked this pattern but thought it might be too much effort. Yours shows it would be totally worth it. Great with no sleeves too.

wow what a wonderful rendition!!….love this site for that with all the talented people who take a concept and reinvent it for themselves….I never for the life of me would have thought to use two colors….and look what a fabulous dress that makes!! thanks for the inspiration.

oh and i just read your great blog.

I loved the view into Benin via the fabric store….not the view of Africa as it’s usually presented to the outside world :)

and I laughed out loud at you comment on burda instructions. i wonder if any of the German speakers on this site can let us know if they are any better in German?!!

maybe! in any case i’m thankful there are other patterns with great instructions, otherwise i’d never be able to complete a burda project

I agree with Laracrj, your dress is better than the original. For a person who is a beginner at sewing, you are very clever. I love your combination of the two fabrics and the detailing of the red bias. Your dress is beautiful and looks perfect for hot weather.

thank you! i actually sketched out 7 possible ways i wanted to make this dress, and it really helps for playing with ideas rather than trying to imagine it in my head
