I made this dress for two reasons – the first I wanted something special and a little different to wear for my friends Caroline’s Birthday Celebration, the dress was made in her honour. I wore it with a wide belt and chunky silver jewellery on the night and used the excess fabric to make a head scarf.-
The second is because I wanted to make a variation on the original Melissa dress from Burda Style -I used the back pieces of the original pattern and shortened it, leaving out the pleats for the front and back and slashed the top of the sleeves and made them puffy/bubble by running elastic through the end of the sleeve bottom edge and the slash top edge allowing a little shoulder to be revealed and then running elastic at the bottom of the A line of dress.
The fabric is actually fabric that would be used as a lining that I bought a few years ago for the interesting print mainly. -
I have not tried the puff ball /bubble look before and thought this would be a great opportunity to do so and while on a break at work I made a tiny sketch on a note pad and the puff ball bubble dress idea was born.
I have already made another version of this pattern and will hope to upload it on my Burdastyle page very soon -
I am very thankful for the opportunity – it was fun to try a new look
