Description

Charlie bag – lined. I really like the size of the bag, and it was an easy and quick sew.

The outer bag was a remnant from a drape that was 9.5 feet long and about 11 inches wide. The remnant wasn’t wide enough to cut the pattern piece on the fold, so I had to add a seam. I loved the print and colors of this remnant but had no idea what I could do with it — I’m glad I figured it out! I will enjoy carrying this bag.

The fabric is so old that it had some real wear-and-tear along the seams of the drapes. After unpicking the seams there were two holes I couldn’t artfully place the pattern around, so I sewed on a couple of appliqued patches (one teardrop-shaped). I’m not sure this bag will survive groceries, but it will be great and stylish for toting my sewing projects back and forth.

Material Notes

Outer bag: vintage cotton barkcloth. Lining: cotton/ poly broadcloth in a purple-grey.
