BurdaStyle 12/2012 #110

Ouidah, Benin

I found a copy of the French BurdaStyle, but since I’ve never sewed from French patterns so I decided to start with an easy sleeveless dress. I also sewed this from some incorrectly cut out pieces from a previous project, so I was happy I didn’t completely waste my fabric.

I omitted the lining (too hot here in benin) but decided to make my own bias tape using the pin in iron board method, and it worked perfectly. I liked subtly connecting the top to the dress with the bias tape.

I wrote more about it in my sewing journal: http://cathywu.com/journal/treadling/2012/12/07/burdastyle-122012-dress-110/

Wow! You DO have the greatest fabrics! And why on earth would anyone make a “LBD” when they could make it with . . . The fabric you made it in, for example. You look stunning in this. I love love love your dress – and your smile is quite lovely too! I am really surprised to see so few people have made this pattern… from the technical drawings it looks like one of the most classic and universally flattering style of dress… Huh… I would say I would check it myself but I really have a dozen UFOs I swore I would finish at least 3 or 4 before I can start another…
