I fell in love with this dress the minute I saw it in the magazine. To be sure it was going to fit I tried to do everything right and even compared my measures again with the Burda chart. Normally I make a 36 without even looking, but I saw that my numbers match closer to the 38. Since I want to be able to wear shirts under it, I went for the 38. Well, argh, the 36 would have been perfect, grmpf. Now it fits my doll better than me, but I still quite like it. I will definitely make this pattern again, in 36 and with other fabrics. It’s an easy project, I highly recommend it! And even with the wool fabric I used it doesn’t get too bulky, which I feared.
(I used a regular zipper, the special one they recommend would make it even better)

Your dress is so beautiful and so well-made! Also your pictures are really clear…Hoping you can help me. I’m sewing this dress now and am having trouble with the directions. Can you describe how you connected the center pleated part to the side front top and side front bottoms. Burda’s directions are confusing me: “Stitch abutting lines and pleat fold lines together, from upper edges to marking. Baste below marking.” I can’t figure out how to get these outermost pleats to hang free below the marks and how to sew it when you remove the basting. Maybe if you could describe how you sewed these parts together it would help me out…Thanks!

This dress is fantastic! I will not be seeking out the right magazine! I fell in love with it the moment I saw your version.

Well-done! This dress was actually the reason I purchased that particular issue of Burda. I immediatelly attempted this project – and just like you – found that I should have gone for 36, even though all my masurements are for size 38. I recommend this pattern to anyone who is looking for a snuggly winter dress design – and your dress proves that it’s a stunning pattern!

Yay, I found my issue of this magazine and i’ll be off to the fabric shop at lunchtime to see what lovely wool I can get for this. I completley by-passed this dress in the mag and it’s not till i’ve seen yours that I MUST make it.
My mum and I are going to London in a couple of weeks for some christmas shopping and to catch a show, i think this will eb the perfect outfit, i might even get some crazy tights to go with it :)
Thanks for the inspiration

Great job! i love it. However, I’m confused about how to get the pattern. Are the patterns in the magazine? I have never bought one this way. I looked online and they’re already on the November issue but the October issue is not yet archived. I’m very frustrated!!!!!! I really love that dress! Exactly what I’ve been after.

Sorry you are frustrated… don’t give up! Yes, the patterns are in the magazine, there are lots of really nice ones in the October issue. I’m sure you’ll be able to find it somewhere… Best of luck!

Wow, thank you so much, I am really overwhelmed with all the great compliments. They should go to Burda, as the pattern is from Burda style magazine, October 2009 (Nr. 119 B), I didn’t really change a thing about it, and I think I am not allowed to publish it – copyright and all… If you’re lucky you will still find the magazine somewhere, or – as recently suggested to someone else – check the libraries! Ours has the Burda magazines… Wishing you the best of luck – otherwise we should contact Burda, and ask them…

It´s wonderful! I would love to make this dress too and i already have the perfect fabric at home! But i couldn`t find this pattern in the burdastyle (the one they are selling now with all the red dresses right?) maybe i`m just blind…where did you find it? Thank you very much!

Oh no, it’s in the one before that, the one from October… The one with the red dresses is already the November issue. Keeping my fingers crossed that you find it somewhere!

Truly beautiful dress!!! You might have fallen in love with the one in the magazine (which I haven’t seen), but I have fallen in love with yours!!!! Now if I could only figure out where/how to get the pattern if I don’t subscribe to the magazine…

Thank you!! Well, I don’t have a subscription either, I only buy the magazine if I like what’s in it… We also have them in the library, which is really great. Maybe you should check in yours… Good luck!

I guess I’ll have to look around, but I haven’t seen the magazine for sale around here. Maybe it’s just that I am in Northern Michigan and the shopping options are rather limited… I’ll look at Jo-Ann’s, though. Thank you for the advice!

It’s lovely! This dress is on my list so it’s good to see one someone has made already. I have the fabric for view A but want to make view B too, in the same grey flannel.

so chic! the belt really added more elegance! The vertical lines plus the belt cinging the waist would make anyone look thinner!

Really such a great dress! You did an excellent job!! I had the same concerns about bulkiness but that is no longer a worry.
