Burda Cover Dress (BurdaStyle 09/2010 pattern #122)

Added Jan 16, 2012

by clio

New York, New Yo...

This is a very figure flattering dress with great lines. It went together MUCH more easily than I thought it would, given that it has no side seams.

The only tricky part was the sleeves. I’m just not sure how exactly I was supposed to attach them (confusing directions). They look fine, but the inside is a mess. (Oh well).

I’m kicking myself a bit now that I made this dress in one color rather than color blocking – I think it would be great that way.

Material Notes

I used a pretty heavy weight cotton knit which the salesperson at Mood said was jersey, but is double knit if I ever saw any.

this is a wonderful pattern and it is really pretty in your chosen colour. I have one in black- and love it to bits. Making one more using this pattern is on the cards, too. Just want to make it in a different colour, not black again My only remark would be that the colour is too wide and needed reducing on the pattern. I had to add a pleat and a decorative button to tame the bulk. Definitely a tip for the future

Good point Nerja – I took in the upper back a bit, so that narrowed the back collar. But if I were to make this pattern again, I would narrow the front a bit, too.

I reduced the collar at the back, and will probably reduce the front a bit too. I’m doinf a color blocked version next. It’s a great pattern.

Hi BootieShakin – Its from BurdaStyle Magazine – 09-2010 issue, pattern # 122. They seem not to have uploaded the pattern to the US site. I used the magazine.

BTW – This dress seems to have mystical bum flattering properties, which from your username I’m thinking may be right up your alley! ;-)

Great dress! I want to make one too and I was also thinking about color blocking. I think I’ll have to make one as soon as the baby bump’s gone. Congratulations on an amazing result!
