A dress with a front and back panels, gathered below the panel in front – below the bust and above the waist, and with optional back ties and front pockets, and two possible collars. I omitted the front pockets but added a pocket to the side seam; omitted the zipper because I found I did not need it; and omitted the back ties. Getting the front panel to sit properly and look good is tricky, and the most difficult thing about making this dress. Take care! The front gathers can make the dress look frumpy if the fabric is stiff and does not drape – choose a fabric that drapes. This dress is a good choice for a middle-aged woman whose figure has seen better days.
My fabric is a cotton sateen with a stylized flower print; purchased from Kim Anh Fabrics, Oakleigh.
Sweet dresses, an outfit for a doll, and cute embellishments are fun for the holidays!
