Description

I saw this as top and a maxi dress in this months burda and just loved it. I don’t really suit maxi’s so i decided to just lenghten the top.I made the orange one first. I had thought about adding a lace panal and then i saw another sewer had added a panal so i just went for it. The second ones a lovely silky palm fabric.i really like both and i think the patterns a good one. x

Mary, just wondering how did you make it more fitted? By taking in in the side seams?

hi verdy, first of i cut the pattern out then i slimmed it down both sides so it was more of a pencil skirt bottom which i prefer. i don’t suit anything swingy so i think this dress works very well fitted. my daughter loved my orange one best and i was thrilled as shes quite fussy lol x

I love them both! Wow Mary you are on a roll – I should love to see your wardrobe! The navy straps add some interest but I think the self fabric straps look classy too since the dress is already interesting!

These summer dresses are so cute! When I first saw the pattern I wondered if the strap that goes around the back of the neck was comfortable but this looks great! What a great idea turning them into dresses too! And I see you were able to make a top from the leftover blue fabric – don’t you love when that happens!

These look wonderful Mary! I wouldn’t put the navy band on either. Thanks for the tips on what you did to improve the construction. This pattern caught my attention, like so many others that you make!! :-)

You really rocked the pattern Mary, I looove your versions!! I like that you made them shorter and more fitted, the dress looks totally different on your body than burda’s model, more sexy and womanlike ( I think your bust has a lot to do with this:P). The lace on the orange one is a very nice detail. I would not put the navy band on the blue dress. Overall very very nice work and you look hot in these, especially in the orange one!! I’m going to trace the pattern right now!!

thanks liliv, i altered the pattern quite a bit after i made the orange one. I had to take it in a lot as i like it much better fitted. once i finished the orange dress i measured its width and then adjusted the pattern so the blue one sewed up like a dream.I think lining them is a good idea liliv as the fimish is so much nicer on the straps etc. I changed the strap holders to the palm fabric as well. x

I forgot to mention that i did’nt follow burdas instructions but i underlined the orange one which went ok. The blue one i fully lined though and i much prefer that version. i also elasticated the back and lengthened the halter slightly x

You made a gorgeous work on them Mary! I think that you widened the outer straps right? What do you mean by saying “lengthened the halter slightly”, did you make the decolte deeper?

hi liliv, the straps are slightly wider so i can drape them of my shoulder as well which looks really nice.i should’ve added a photo of that but i needed my halterneck bra and it was in the wash. I did lengthen the halter section by about an inch as it sat nicer and showed of my bust lol, well if you’ve got them flaunt them i say lol x
