Burda Style For people who sew
Description
I made this coat using Burda’s 08/2009 pattern. I used a wool tweed for the fashion fabric, hair canvas and silk organza for shaping (and pad stitiching). The lining is a turquoise rayon hand stitched to the coat and edged with a self-made ivory rayon piping. The fashion fabric’s pattern is quite distracting at times so I added a silk ribbon trim to the collar and lapels as well. This is my first coat making project and took about 5 weeks of part time sewing. A lot of hand stitching was involved and I followed the Vintage Couture Tailoring book by Thomas Von Nordheim for most of the hand stitching techniques. To finish the coat, I used some large glass buttons. I tried documentating the coat making process on my blog and you can see more here:
