based on mccalls 5882, a kay whitt design, but i didn’t add a contrast hem, changed the neckline, and shortened the tie so it ties at the back, rather than winding around to the front. i felt adding an extra contrast piece for the hem would take away from this bumblebee fabric, and the original boat neckline just didn’t look right at all so i made it a v-neck. this made doing the facing a bit awkward so the shoulders don’t look fantastic of examined closely. the dress is versatile and can be worn in any season, with tights and a long sleeve shirt in winter, by itself in summer, and anything in between.
when i finished and tried on the dress i thought it looked very much like something zooey deschanel might wear, hence the name i’ve given it.
