It’s a new pattern, McCalls M6600, but it has a very 1970’s vibe to it. As soon as I saw the pattern I knew it would be great for daughter No2, who seems to be able to pull off all sorts of vintage styles! A quick trip to Fred Winter’s in Stratford on Avon revealed the perfect fabric, Liberty cotton needlecord. Also the perfect price, their Liberty fabrics were all £11/m! I quickly snaffled 2.2m, and as soon as I was home it was in the washing machine.

I made this dress up in a size 10, only adjustment to the pattern was to shorten the skirt, Daughter no2 is tall, but wanted the skirt length to be a little shorter. I took off 6cm to satisfy her teenage requirements. An addittion to the pattern was the in-seam pockets. Daughter No2 requires somewhere to put her ipod, or phone, or sometimes just her cold hands!

The pattern envelope says it’s an “easy” and it was. I have given it an “intermediate” rating though, I don’t know of many novices who’d work comfortably with the 2-piece collar and the polo opening. It ran up really quickly and I really like the way they’ve done the sleeve. I give this 5/5, great shape, great style, and quick to make! :D
