When I came across this fabric during a couture fabric sale, it reminded me of the film “bonjour tristesse” with Jean Seberg. The colour, the gold embroderie + the quality of the cotton made it the perfect fabric for a “cote d’azur” dress. As I don’t have a Jean Seberg body, I decided to make a dress for “Elsa” who is the fathers girlfriend in the film :-)
For the pattern I used the top of vogue pattern nr: 2316 C and the skirt of my 2 euro dress (Burdastyle: 5/2007 nr: 124c). But as vogue patterns put the sideseams more to the front and burdastyle makes front and back equal, I ended up with non fitting side seams,…I could not fix this, but when wearing my dress it doesn’t show unless you know it.
The bodice had an elastic part in the lowerback but I left this out and made it fitting.
I’m not so happy about the fit of the bust part, I had to enlarge it but it’s still too tight. I also had to ad small pintucks otherwise the armholes where gaping.
Instead of using a zipper, I used buttons. I covered simple buttons with the embroidered fabric. The skirt closes with snaps. For this I had to redraft the back of the bodice and create an overlapping part. The closure of the skirt is hidden in the backpleat.
The dress is lined with blue cotton voile, this gives more firmness to the bodice and as the embroidery doens’t feel comfortable on the skin I had to line the skirt too.
cotton with embroidery, cotton voile, buttons, gttermann yarn, 2 big snaps, 1 smal snap.
