Made this coordinated boy’s shirt and hat for my nephew’s 5th birthday. He loved it, and I love that the easy fit of the shirt allows for some growing room.
Both patterns are found in the ‘Sewing for Boy’s sewing book by Shelly Figueroa and Karen LePage. If you don’t already know how to make a French Seam, you’ll want to investigate a tutorial ahead of time.
I used upcycled materials almost exclusively. The shirt body and bottom brim of the hat fabric came from a thrifted men’s cotton dress shirt. The shirt’s collar lining and hat top, brim top, and interior came from a cotton sheet purchased at a garage sale. The cute ‘jars of bugs’ fabric on the hat’s body is part of Patty Sloniger’s BACKYARD BABY collection.
Flirty dresses, a cropped cami, and glam trousers for modern flappers.
