Inspired by classic bow ties I’ve seen in the movies (and on Mad Men) but unable to find a good local supply of the originals, I took a vintage bow tie and traced it to make my pattern. These are some of my hand-stitched bow ties made with some mighty fun fabrics.
The metal sliders are as rare as hen’s teeth so I opted to use velcro to make the ties adjustable. Even if your neck size doesn’t change, the thickness of your shirt fabric can and does make a difference when tying it.. Also, velcro is ideal for children’s bow ties.
Cotton & cotton blend fabrics used. Very thin fusible interfacing, Velcro for adjustable neck sizing.

Oh… for several of these ties I used readily available fabric quarters, and the pattern was not cut on the bias.
