I used one of my favourite Vogue Patterns – V8593, to make a smart and comfortable dress for work. This is a very fitted style for which I chose a lovely boucle fabric in chocolate brown. The dress has an interesting neckline detail which, though it appears complicated is actually very simple if marked out using a tracing wheel and two colours of paper. I have made this dress previously as sleeveless but decided to add dainty tucked sleeves which work well with the pleats at the neckline. The pattern for the sleeves was ‘borrowed’ from another pattern. I inserted an invisible zip, though the boucle fabric would probably have stretched sufficiently to omit the zipper altogether. As a bonus, this dress works well with a Linton Tweed Chanel style jacket I made previously and I usually wear it with a brown, snakeprint waist belt.
Boucle jersey – chocolate brown.

I can really recommend this pattern. I’ve mad it three times now with different stretch fabrics, sleeveless and with sleeves. It works really well and has been much admired. The neckline takes a bit of patience and it’s really important to match the marking perfectly then tack stitch into place securely before applying the neckline facing. I hope you enjoy making the dress and look forward to seeing the result. Thank you for your lovely comment.
