This was one of my most labor intensive projects which I complete in a couple of days last spring. I was inspired (once again) by the stylish dress book. It was a simple denim-like cropped navy vest with a racerback and covered in chiffon ruffles. I spent a ton of time learning how to do a rolled hem on my overlock machine and citting and gathering ruffles. I was super happy with the result, but it is was to quirky for me to wear in public. The one time I did I felt like a little lamb!
polyester chiffon (a nice pliable one) stiff cotton

oh, i also have the book you meant, and was also planning on making the chiffon ruffles on my own (=not buy a ready-made ruffled fabric) :D this totally rocks, and i’d definitely wear it in public with long buttoned up shirt & leggings + boots!

Those ruffles are so beautiful! If you’re not gonna wear it then at least hang it up outside the wardrobe. It has to be seen.

I do that too – make things that I think are beautiful but never wear them cos they make me feel like I stand out too much! I usually end up giving them to people who don’t mind being a bit dramatic. I’m sure you’ll warm to it and be able to wear it without the farm animal factor.
