I adore 1940s fashion, and no 40s wardrobe is complete without a snood or two. I decided to dress up my snood by using 4-ply silk yarn and topping it off with ribbons and pearls.

This is my second time making this snood, and I can’t say enough about the pattern. I love it! If you don’t crochet, you should learn how, if only for this pattern.

This project does require a bit of round elastic – and it will show through your crochet. Since I couldn’t find any blue elastic to match, I purchased regular old white elastic, and used a sharpie marker to “color” the elastic.

Hint: This is a great way to use up any extra yardage from finished knit or crochet projects.
The flower ribbons and pearls were originally intended to be a necklace, but I decided it was too bulky to wear around my neck. So, I just added a couple of clips to the back, and presto, I have a lovely hair ornament to wear with my silk snood. The pearls were rescued from some old costume jewelry that had seen better days – some of the paint had melted off and turned a strange orange color – so I cut the necklace apart and saved the usable bits. The velvet remnants came from the leftovers from a Halloween costume. I love when I can up-cycle or use up my stash of fabric. The only newly purchased part of the project is the alligator clips I used to attach the hair ornament; everything else was in my stash, just waiting for the right project.
