I saw this pattern and I just had to buy it. The dress looked beautiful in the picture in the print fabric. I thought that the dress would do well to colour block as well but I was not so brave. I went with a reversable satin fabric to create a look that allowed the side inserts to stand out without the colour blocking……I’ll call it reverse blocking!
This was my first time working with a more complex burda pattern; it was easy to follow through with. I did not use lining on the dress so I did not follow the instructions too closely.
I am quite tall so I printed the pattern 10% bigger than the actual size. The test square measured 12 cm instead of 11 cm. This allowed for length adjustments to the bodice and skirt I needed. I then cut the pattern to the size that worked out for me which happened to be the smallest size. I took off an inch at the neckline and tapered it nicely to the shoulders because I have a smaller bust. This prevents the dress from falling off my shoulders. The back V turned out a little bit deeper due to my adjustments but I like it! I’m not too fond of exposed zippers so I used an invisible zip.
This pattern gives a nice modern vintage looking dress.
The fabric is a sort of rough polyester satin that’s quite heavy and thick. It looks lovely and was easy to sew.

I’m about to make this in a satin, too, and I love the idea of reversing the satin for a few of the sections and playing with the textures! thanks for the idea!!
