I became interested in folk costumes and obsessed with traditional skirts. I made this little skirt for my daughter Marie, inspired by czech folk costumes; the fabric is called “modrotisk”, although I´m not sure it´s “real” modrotisk. I´ ve just ordered some traditionally made one (similar to the one the women on the picture wear), so I will know the difference soon :). And I love lace…
old cotton from my mother´s stash, lace, elastic

I think that’s a good interpretation… especially considering it’s for your small daughter. I suppose using the real thing would be a bit of an overkill for her. :-) I love blue and white…

Well, I plan to make a skirt for myself from the “real thing”, but I´m affraid it will be a little stiff…

I think it will be less stiff if you wash it.
Although that’s just my guess, because I’ve never worked with it… It just reminds me of the sarees, that’s why I thought so.

It arrived today and it´s amazing! I love it. It´s a bit stiffer than the one I had but I think it´s going to be ok :)

Good luck, and don’t forget to share the finished result, in a proper photoshoot. :-) Let’s promote traditional Czech fabric!
