Description

I made this to go to a friend’s 18th. I’m really pleased with it, as I was expecting my sewing to produce a very dodgy looking garment! I don’t like the bow on the front – I think it needs to be smaller, so I’ll get around to altering that later. It definitely needs something to cover the gathering stitches in the middle. The lining is only tacked on as well. I think the pattern I used is very similar to the Caty, maybe? I’m making another one with straps in a white and blue floral! Good times to be had :)

Material Notes

Blue polyester (I’m not a polyester fan AT ALL, but this particular fabric had a very nice feel and didn’t fray much); blue cotton for the lining; invisible zipper; iron-on interfacing

Thank you! I was just looking through your studio after seeing your polka dot top, and I love your stuff! Those elephants you made are really cute :)

thanks guys! i’ll definitely consider keeping the bow now! Maybe I could work out some sort of removable system – perhaps attach it onto the dress with press clips??? Then, I could dress it down by removing the bow and adding a simple knot of fabric over the gathers. I’ll have to do some brainstorming :)

I love this dress, and like the above, the bow looks great on it! Makes you look like a wrapped up present, and who doesn’t want to look like that every day?!

The bow gives the dress a bit of extra edge. I would defenitely keep it like it is! Great job!

Me too. I love the bow, and you are still young enough to pull off the look. Do it while you can! Make a statement!
