This was the most popular home-sewn dress of the 1950s! Butterick’s one-piece walk-away dress, pattern 6015 (now B4790). As easy to make as described, and fun, too.
I adapted it a bit, taking two centimeters off the sleeve caps, and adding 7 centimeters to the waist height, since I have a particularly long torso. If I made this again, I would also cut the front wrap-around piece a bit differently so that it’s narrower in front.
Hard to see in the photos, but it's a tiny blue, white and black tartan. There's one thread of black, one thread of white, and two threads of blue. It has a vintage feel that goes great with this pattern.
