These are my 2 entries from Blackmails LBD contest in Oct 2009. Both dresses made the top 8 there were a total of 22 entries. The dress on the left was made of men’s ties some of them I over dyes. The dress on the right was made of a poly Lycra knit, cowl back with feather appliques at the shoulders of the same fabric.
My dress is made of swimwear and cotton sateen and has pockets.
The last picture is of all top 8 dresses the one on the far right of my tie dress won the competition.

The tie dress should have been the winner – it’s very cute and original and the fit is wonderful!

It didn’t fit the model well in the back, it was shorter in the back on her, but when I made it I didn’t know who would be wearing it, they supplied the models. The dress technically wasn’t black either the dyes reacted with the minerals in the water and it came out more navy than black.

I still love it more! :-) Maybe some other contest then?

The tie dress is absolutely fantastic, you should post a “how to” for this design! It would have so many possibilities!

Somewhere on the web there is a video of me making one at Austin’s Maker Faire 2007. It’s easy to make but you have to have just the right curves to make it fit.

really great use of ties…the way you’ve used their shape to best advantage in the shape of the dress ….and love how their ends form the hemline….very inventive, great result!
