Black x White Floral Skirt

Added Oct 16, 2010

Pittsburgh, Unit...

I wanted to try making some skirts, this is my first try. I like how it came out overall, although I think in the future I won’t buy fabric with such a busy pattern. I didn’t have a pattern, just followed basic directions for a rectangle skirt and the directions here ( for a half elastic waistband tutorial. I also added pin-tucks because they seemed like fun, but I just made them by half guessing and looking at examples. (You can’t really see them because of how busy the fabric pattern is).

Material Notes

Cotton fabric, about 2 yards.

Spring, Summer, Fall
Garment Type
Casual, Goth/Gothic Lolita

I think the skirt is perfect for the outfit you have styled. Good job on your first skirt.

Actually, printed cotton is a great choice of fabric for a first skirt. It looks very nice the way you wear it. Of course, gathered skirts are always good for a gothic lolita look and easy to make. I suppose you don’t read German, but if you do, this site: is a great source for gothic and gothic lolita tutorials.

Thank you :) No, I don’t speak German unfortunately, but I will have a look around the site.
