Wrap dress based on Erdronen’s lovely Hope Wrap Dress http://www.burdastyle.com/patterns/hope-wrap-dress.
sorry folks pics aren’t great, need to dig out my digital camera as the Blackberry doesn’t really cut it.
I made this as a sort of wearable muslin from a super inexpensive remnant that looks ok, its textured like a wool crepe with a sort of stripe/grain, but is some kind of awful scratchy poly double stretch….as I’m a 36 and Erdronen is a 34 and I cant grade patterns, wasn’t sure how it would work out…as it happens it’s a winner, I am super pleased with it and have already worn this so will most likely make more out of nicer fabric.
I used technique from the waistband from EmilyKate’s cheeky panties to add all the ties without any coverstich to keep it clean, I also used the fabrics “stripe” in the opposite direction – vertical for the dress, horizontal for the ties – to add a little extra interest. I also lengthened the sleeves for winter and added cuff using the same waistband technique to make it a little less dressy. oh and the fabric was soooo streatchy I used an elastic stitch for the hem – worked perfect :)
super nasty $1.49 poly remnant, ok to look at but please don't touch ;)

Wow, I love this look. So chic and elegant. I have to sew myself one too. What fabric is best?

Hi there …I can tell you what i used. it was out of the remnant pile so no tag but very stretchy polyester something. It did definately had 2 way streatch. I actually got it to try as a muslin but it ended up sewing up very nicely. I wear this a lot – which is not true of some of my other sewing projects :)
