I really love to dress up. But unfortunately people don’t celebrate carnival here in Hamburg and Halloween is catching on very slowly. And then my Bikram Yoga studio announced a dress up Halloween class! With a 120 Euro prize to win. Yeah.
But let me tell you something about bikram yoga. Every class takes 90 minutes, you perform 26 exercises in a room heated to almost 40 degrees Celsius (like 100 F). It is a kick ass workout, at the end of the class you are literally staying in a pool of your own sweat. Love it.
So picking up a costume was hard. You need to be able to move, and perform the assanas, and you can’t have much on, because it’s hot and at the end of the class everybody is soaked anyway. So I came up with the black swan.
The costume itself is a cami/vest, tutu and my yoga shorts.
The vest is based on a great free pattern from SoZo. I cut it from pane velvet with clear straps for illusion of a corset.
I wanted my tutu to be really dramatic and authentic. It’s a mixture of how real pancake tutus are made and what was suitable for my purpose. I have described the whole process in the tutorial. I have to warn you it took me a lot of time and tulle to make this.
And by the way I won the prize!
6 m of tulle, 0,5m of pane velvet, clear elastic, 1m of 5 cm wide elastic, fethest, rinestone

Thank you. I wish I had photos of me wearing this and doing “Standing Separate Leg Stretching Pose” my teacher told me it looked hilarious.

well done! Always wanted to make a ballet dress, will have to check out your tutorial. It’s really lovely.
Maybe I will. I did buy a hoop frame thing to make myself a victorian dress jsut for the fun of it, but haven’t got round to it yet. Always thought it would look good on the manequin as a display if I didn’t actually wear it myslef so could do the same if I made a ballet dress :-)

Thank you. Making this was so much fun. You should sew one just for the pleasure of making something totally unnecessary and cool.
