Since I like everything in jersey, I decided to make the maryy dress out of jersey. I used scraps of black fabric for the bra bands and then used old t-shirts for the neck bands. The skirts were from old t-shirts also (I collect black tees from people to reuse). I used some blue jersey for the lining of the bra bands and I kind of wish that I hadn’t because they show a little bit. I was not able to topstitch them because when I did, they went all wavey (I guess I need a walking foot to make them stay flat). The other “oddity” of this dress is that the rear skirt panel is a faded black instead of dark black like the other parts of the dress. I supposed I could overdye it but I am not so into dyeing (just because of the chemicals).
I found the straps were really fiddly with this pattern and rather annoying. I think that ribbons would be so much easier. You could probably press them to fit the curves. If I were going to try this on another version, I would need about 3m of ribbon (if I wanted to double it on the straps for extra strength). Ribbon would also look neater than my straps. If anyone tries this, please let me know, as I’m curious to know how it turned out for you!
I would like to make another dress before the summer is over so if anyone has suggestions for me, let me know!
And if anyone is curious, I took about 35 photos of me in this dress and kept 11. Outfit photos are not easy!

did you need to put a zip in it?

Hi! Sorry it’s taken me so long to respond! I guess I’m not sewing enough!
There is no zip in it because it’s t-shirt fabric (=stretchy). It’s a bit tight because I did reinforce it with another fabric (although still stretchy) and the top stitching isn’t that stretchy.
I am also small-busted so it’s not a big issue for me as it could be for others.
