Description

I liked this pattern as soon as I saw it in the burda issue, I loved this dramatic neckline. I used jersey for this, not a good choise because the neckline was gapping due to the drapery of the fabric. I put elastic to stabilize it and now it is perfect, sexy and wide but no fear that somebody will see my bra! I skipped the bubble hem. I also skipped the bands at the bottom of the sleeves, I just made a tunnel with elastic. I also added lace to give it a little more interest.
This was a test garment in reality, somehow a muslin to see how this neckline would look on me. Despite the problems that I had with it, I like it and I will wear it. It’s easy to dress it down and to color it up with accessories. Now I want to make this pattern again with a more suitable fabric.

A great take on this dress and you look fab in it. I like your version without the bubble hem. I’m about to try this pattern and will leave out the bubble hem too. I’ve bought some lovely cotton fabric for it, I hope it works!

Thank you very much! It is really a very nice pattern and it’s too bad we haven’t seen many finished dresses. I would love so much to see your version! What’s the color of the fabric?

I’ve finally finished it! I chose a red floral fabric. A picture of it is on my studio page. I’m trying to work out how to link it to the pattern page.
It took me a lot longer than I thought it would and a lot of unpicking!

Thanks a lot dear velvetribbon! To be honest this was sewn back in 2010 as soon as the burda issue was published, but only recently I figoured out how to make it wearable.

Wow, I really love this dramatic black dress! Great idea about the elastic in the neckline to stabilize – I have to remember that. Isn’t it great when you end up with a wearable muslin? Also love your hair style in these photos!

I have always liked this pattern, but I think you have given it new meaning for me and being sewn up in black, it looks wonderful. The neckline really suits you and I am always amazed at how certain necklines really flatter different people. You should stay with this neckline, it is perfect for you.

You make me so happy with your generous comments:) The truth is that it was the fabric that gave a new meaning to the pattern, because it made it more drapey and changed the whole feeling of the dress. When I added the elastic the angles of the neckline became more rounded and smooth. Thanks a lot for commenting!!
P.s. If you ever decide to make this pattern and want to achieve this not so angled neckline, put elastic in the inside between the bodice and the lining WITHOUT stiching it on the neckline or make some tunnel. Just put it and secure it at the shoulder seams.

Thank-you liliv for your tip on sewing the neck line. I recently bought some clear elastic for knit neck lines, so I may just give it a go. This type of neck line suits me too. I must have a square face as V-necks really don’t work for me.

Good luck with the clear elastic then:) I can’t wait to see your dress!:)

Thanks for the link girlfriend! But I don’t need it! I saved the picture of this absolutely cute pink dress last year (when you posted it) in a “inspiration” folder with other gorgeous dresses I find on the web! Back to my dress now: I’m very happy you like it! And you are right that the black makes it sexy, while the pink makes it so sweet…different color, different style:) Thank you sweetie!!
